A child's childhood is incomplete without being part of a sports team, whether they were a little league baseball player or a college football player. While mouthguards may not be required, most sports go over the equipment that the child must wear to each event. In light of this, mouthguards may be the difference between saving a child's teeth and losing them.

The Mouth Guard Process

The process for a mouthguard is simple and usually completed over two appointments. During the first appointment, we will take a mold of the child's mouth and images. Afterward, this mold and measurements will be sent to a dental lab to prepare the custom-made mouth guard. Upon completion, we invite the child back to our office, where we can check that the mouth guard fits correctly and make any necessary adjustments. Upon leaving, your child will have the assurance that their teeth are adequately protected during physical activities.

Why Do Teeth Whitening At The Dentist Produce Better Results?

The oxidization process occurs when we apply a whitening solution to your teeth. Once inside your tooth, our solution will begin the oxidization process so that the molecules inside your teeth will reflect less light, resulting in a brilliant shade of white appearance. It will appear colorless so that your teeth appear whiter than white.

How Long Does The Teeth Whitening Procedure Take?

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic procedure that can make your teeth look brighter and more youthful. The procedure is relatively quick, taking only 30 minutes to an hour to complete. However, the results take time, and you may need to wait a few days to see the full effect of the whitening. Additionally, you may need to repeat the procedure every few months to maintain your new, bright smile.

Can Anyone Have Their Teeth Whitened?

At Calistoga Dental Group, we suggest teeth whitening procedures for adults and some older teens. It is not the correct procedure for children, which fortunately isn’t a necessity in almost all cases. We perform a thorough examination beforehand to verify if the patient qualifies for teeth whitening; this is done to make sure there are no signs of cavities, infection, or gum disease. These oral health issues must be treated before cosmetic dentistry procedures can occur. This protects you from discomfort or further deteriorating your condition with a whitening solution on an affected tooth. Should we discover any oral health problems, our team can fix them swiftly and schedule you for a teeth whitening appointment promptly.

How Frequently Can I Schedule A Teeth Whitening At The Dentist?

When you visit our dental office, we will examine your teeth, look for signs of erosion and discuss your treatment plan. If your teeth are healthy, they can be whitened every six to twelve months. If they are not healthy, sensitive, or eroding, we recommend whitening them only once a year.

How Can I Keep My Teeth White After A Treatment?

At Calistoga Dental Group, our patients are told that there are several effective ways to extend the intervals between whitening procedures. Simply drinking water each time you have a meal or beverage helps. Furthermore, brushing your teeth after eating and when consuming staining items is important. Be mindful of acidic food and drinks, especially coffee, red wine, and soy sauce, as they can cause damage to your smile if consumed too often.
