Why do people opt for Oral Surgery?

Three reasons why surgery might be necessary include:

Your health

Dental care

Gum disease

Tooth decay is widespread and can quickly be addressed if you keep up with regular visits to the dentist. However, left unchecked, it can cause discomfort or spread, possibly leading to tooth extraction. Sometimes, a root canal may be available; however, immediate treatment is essential. Oral surgery could also be necessary if you suffer from gum disease, such as gum recession which might call for a surgical gum graft.

We also perform oral surgery to remove wisdom teeth. While they do not always pose a health risk, they can grow impacted and cause discomfort. On the other hand, they can prevent future infections and other teeth from pushing forward if removed.

Some of our patients undergo oral surgery for cosmetic reasons. For example, dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. A new root system is developed during this process, and once the tooth is attached, the new tooth will be as secure as a natural tooth once it has been linked. Contact our dental office at (707) 709-6058 to learn more about this process.

How Long will it Take for Recovery Post-Oral Surgery?

The type of surgery you select at our Calistoga dental office will determine the extent of bleeding and swelling, so gauze is typically given to control it. To minimize the discomfort, we advise you to use a light cloth when handling your skin, while taking ibuprofen can help reduce the swelling. We recommend using ice only for a short period; however, you may take ibuprofen for a week or as our dentist prescribe. Additionally, antibiotics may be assigned if infection needs to be prevented. At Calistoga Dental Group, we are prepared to ensure optimal healing in all our oral surgical procedures.
